In anticipation of the impending harvest season, we are applying a little Preparation H- preparation for Harvest. At times, parts of harvest are a bit of a pain in the you-know-what, therefore, a good dose of preparation goes a long way to helping things move along as smoothly as possible. Hmm, that last part may have been a bit much. Anyhoo, in both the winery and vineyards, we are busy prepping for harvest 2019. It’s almost go-time! (yeah, I can do this all day)
In the winery, it’s all about making room. Benji has been busy cleaning the crusher and press this week in anticipation for the start of harvest. The barrels have all been prepped, our pre-harvest toppings have been done, and the 2018 wines have been put to bed. We are all set for the fruit to drop.

Things in the vineyard aren’t far behind. The nets are up, the bird alarms are going, and all of the color drop has happened. The vineyard crew has been cleaning the bins, greasing the tractors, and firing up the generators for night picking. The Viognier is first in line for picking, which should be sometime in the next 5-10 days. The fruit is looking really nice this year- small berries and small clusters that are really…loose (Derek’s words, not mine!)

The preparation for harvest is an important step in ensuring things are ready when the *blank* hits the fan, as it invariably does. And now, you will never look at or think about harvest the same again. You’re welcome.
