2009 Zio Luciano Sold Out!
2009 ZIO LUCIANO HAS SOLD OUT!!!
Uncles seem to come in two types- the good kind that show up, let you drive their awesome sports cars, do things your parents don’t let you do, and leave you at least $20 richer… and the not-so-good kind, that show up, crack off-colored jokes, eat and drink everything in the house, and pass out on the sofa while watching bowling (no offense to the bowling aficionados out there). Unlike my own family, fortunately, the uncle our Zio Luciano wine is named after is definitely of the former variety. A big, impressive personality deserves to have a big, impressive wine named after him. Intrigued? Why, please read on.
Our 2009 Zio Luciano is a Bordeaux blend, made up of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot, Malbec, and Syrah. The grapes all came from vineyards in Sonoma that were owned by Sir Timothy. Harvest for these varietals came between late-October to early-November, with multiple blocks being picked and hand-sorted in the vineyard and then again at the winery. The lots went through a 30 day cool fermentation with indigenous yeast starting the fermentation. Everything went into 100% French oak barrels for 32 months, with minimal intervention and rackings. So what does that all mean? It means a lot of time and care went into making this big Bordeaux blend.
Alright, yeah, yeah, yeah, enough about the process, how about the product? A concentrated, full-bodied blend with great acidity, yet nuanced and elegant at the same time- but enough about me…haha, just kidding. Zio Luciano is gorgeous in the glass- dark purple/garnet in color with a classic bouquet consisting of crushed pepper, cured meat, hummus, graphite, truffles, and a large amount of black currant. The best pairing is with a dish from the Irwin family’s favorite day of the week- Steak Sunday- a medium-rare rib-eye. (I might have just drooled on the keyboard).
Of course, you may already know all of this as this is the second release of Zio Luciano. It was extremely popular the first time around (especially at the price point- which I will get to momentarily) and sold out very fast. The first release of Zio was a gold medal winner at the LA International Wine Competition so if you missed your chance at trying this wonderful wine, you’re in luck! And if you tried Zio and were lamenting the fact that it sold out, you’re also in luck- we’re offering it at the same great price!
Here it is: Wine Club members can purchase Zio Luciano for $120/case, which is only $10 a bottle- math even I can do! Disclaimer is that it is only available for purchase by the case. Non-members still get a great deal with a price of $156/case, which is still a bargain at $13 a bottle (and slightly harder math). And the link of course:
So pick up a case of this great wine at an even better price- I’d love to hear what you think of my favorite Uncle!
