Local wineries shine at state fair

A big wine event that took place in July was the California Grape and Gourmet Wine Tasting where they announce all the winners of the California State Fair wine competition. This year over 650 wineries entered more than 2,900 wines in the competition. Only medal winning wineries are invited to pour at this gala event.

Naggiar Vineyards: A 'piece of heaven' in Nevada County

Every once in a while, out of the chatter of what is going on in wine country Nevada County, something will grab me out of my daydreaming and demand to be noticed.
These experiences are what dreamers live for. The hole in one. A bottle of wine you bought for $5 and it turns out to be fantastic, and you kick yourself for not buying a case or two. That special song you hum happily day after day without giving it much thought. They surprise and delight because you didn't pay attention to what was in front of you in the first place. New wines anticipated from Naggiar
Naggiar Vineyards' maiden wine release, their 2003 Sangiovese, is now available for sale. It is the first of five wines that will be rolled out in the coming months, and part of 1,550 cases made in the initial vintage

Throughout the foothills, wine making and grape growing is more often than not a family affair. At Naggiar Vineyards in Nevada County, though, it's more like a clan affair, with three limbs of the family tree all located near the end of Garden Bar Road on 160 rolling acres.
